Ciabatta Sliders

I have to be honest, I never really “got” the whole slider idea.  I get that they are small and fun, but why so much fussing over such a teeny tiny bun?  To me, a sandwich or a burger~full size, just makes more sense. And keep the appy’s to dips/veggies/etc.  Well, I think I finally “get” it.  They ARE fun.  They ARE small.  They ARE NOT so much work.  And you can have TWO and feel like you’re being naughty.

 I like to experiment on new recipes when Joe is gone.  I’m not sure why.  We love to do that together.  But if a dish (that just might be on the dinner menu) is a flop, then I don’t feel so horrible resorting to dip for dinner, although being as sweet and amazing as he is, he would eat whatever the disaster was with a smile on his face, and then we would discuss what we might change the next time around. That’s just how we work together.

I ran across several slider recipes. They all looked and sounded divine. A tiny burger slider, however, just sounded like a whole lot of fun to make, as well as eat. Ty agreed.  Bite~size morsels that you can dress up with any condiment of your choosing: a tiny pickle, a shred of lettuce, a  dab of mayo, one jalapeño.  Perfection!

Ingredients
  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 Tablespoon Montreal Steak Seasoning
  • 1 Tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 onion (finely chopped)
  • 7.5 ounce Colby~Jack cheese slices
  • 12 count Mini Ciabatta Rolls* (toasted)

Instructions
  1. In large bowl, combine ground beef, steak seasoning, Worcestershire Sauce and salt.
  2. On a 12x17 baking pan, press ground beef mixture with hands/rolling pin to even out.
  3. Sprinkle onion over meat mixture (I only did half because not everyone likes onion in our house).
  4. Bake for approximately 20 minutes, or until meat is cooked through (it will shrink up a bit).
  5. Remove from oven, drain fat from pan and lay 6 slices of cheese over the top. Return to oven and bake an additional 5 minutes.
  6. Remove from oven and cut into 3x3 squares (approx).
  7. To toast rolls, turn oven to broil. Spread a very light layer of butter on the inside top and bottom roll. Place on foil lined baking pan and broil for approx. 4 minutes, or until rolls are toasted to your liking.
  8. Place two patties on roll and add condiments of your choosing.

*Ciabatta Rolls can be found in most bakery sections.  I found mine at Wal~Mart.
